Tour of Berlin Part 2

On Friday, 2/27/09, we began our day at the Berliner Dom, a cathedral that is over 450 years old. All the students were in awe upon entering the Dom. This place was especially interesting for our carpentry student,Warren Bitterman. It was explained to him that all the work in side was hand crafted. Below you see a picture of the main alter as an example.

Here we are in front of the most famous symbol of German unity, the Brandenberger Tor. We also visited the Neue Wache which is a sacred sculpture. This location contains a sculpture of a mother cradling her mortally wounded child.
It is dedicated to all who died because of tyranny and war.

Our next stop after the Brandenberger Tor was the
Käiser Wilhelm Kirche on the Kurfurstendam. All that remains of this church is the steeple after being destroyed in the bombing of Berlin in World War II. After the visit to the church , our students had some free time to shop in Ka De We. This store is one of the most famous in Europe. The product quality is number one. It even contains an entire floor of fresh food, breads, meats, and vegetables.

In the picture above, can you guess where we are?
One clue; it has something to do with World War II

We left Berlin for a ride to Potsdam.
This place is the site of the treaty ending World War II. Meetings between Winston Churchill, Franklin Roosevelt, and Josef Stalin were often held.We visited Sans Souci, the castle of Prussia King Frederick the Great.

We took a tour inside but picture taking was not permitted. After the tour, we had the chance to have lunch. It was time for coffee and cake. Everything tasted wonderful. Das schmeck lecker!
